Our Profits Although Outdoors is wholly owned by The Scout Association, we are required by the Charity Commissioners to operate at a financial arm's length from the association.
Our Board of Directors is chaired by a Volunteer who is a very experienced and able businessman. It includes other voluntary members with wide commercial expertise. We pay for all our own capital projects such as shop modernisation, re-equipping Outdoors shops with computerised tills (EPOS), installing anti-theft equipment, upgrading computer systems and refitting the warehouse. All of this adds to the value of the company.
We also fund our own stock and pay the day-to-day running expenses associated with any High Street business such as rents, rates, salaries and the like.
Once the bills have been paid, 100% of the annual surplus or profit is returned to The Scout Association. That means any surplus we make on money you spend with Outdoors, either through Lancing or our Outdoors shops, goes directly back into Scouting. (None of our competitors can say that.) That surplus helps keep down the cost of your Scouting.
Over the years Scout Shops have returned many millions of pounds to The Scout Association. We would like to make it more. You can help by buying what you need for Scouting through this company and your own District Scout Shops.

Each year profits from Scout Shops are returned to The Scout Association and, over the last 25 years, we have contributed millions of pounds.
